obviously, i can’t speak to the region and i have no examples of popular latin@s doing something similar to MIA but i have sense that reinforcing stereotypes is part of the concept of the new video. it felt intentional to present some of white people’s fears over the region; money, power and violence. the portrayal of women in those roles too is particularly relevant with the west trying their best to “free” women, etc.
despite all the MIA pictures on my blog, i know she’s not perfect but i think she contributes something really important to the conversation.
